Starting 2018 Right!

Hi guys!

So I kind of disappeared off the face of the earth almost 2 months ago, and in doing so, I failed Blogmas! I wish I could tell you guys something amazing happened like I won the lottery and went on a month long trip to a place with no cell service, but the truth of the matter was that I just got so busy with the Holidays, and then my anxiety took a turn for the worse. I realized I was obsessing, unhealthily, over making sure I got posts up and all that stuff, and I needed a step back. I have been planning this post for quite some time, but every time I thought of posting it, I would have a little mini panic attack-worrying about sticking to a posting schedule, having to take pictures, etc!- and I lost sight of why I started his blog to begin with!

With us fast approaching the half way mark in February(!!!!) I figured it was time to really crack down and let you all know what was happening, and that I was still alive and well (or as “well” as I can be). Anxiety is something that I will have to deal with my whole life, and realizing what is causing it and being strong enough to step back is a HUGE step in the right direction! I’m not going to make any promises about when I will post and all that because that was my downfall last time. This blog is a way for me to express myself and get my voice out there on my own terms. It is a hobby, not something that should be a source of extreme anxiety.

I just wanted to say hi guys, hope your Holiday and New Year were great, sorry I went MIA(it was what I needed) and I look forward to reading everyone’s posts and sharing a little bit of my 2018 with you all!

All the hugs and squeezes!

Hi Guys!

For my American peeps, I hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving yesterday! Mine was filled with family, dogs and tons of turkey and pie! For everyone else, I hope your Thursday was extraordinary!

This post is just a quick thing to let you all know that I will be doing BLOGMAS this year! I am so flipping excited, but also a little nervous. I’m not totally sure how I’m going to come up with 24/25 posts, as well as not quite sure exactly how I’m going to go about it! It will definitely be a learning experience.

I do have a few posts already written, so those will definitely be going up earlier in the month, but I would love some suggestions if anyone is up for it! I have one or two more posts planned for November, before Blogmas gets started, so look out for those.

Until then, I hope you all have the best weekend, and find the best deals for Black Friday that you can! Get that Christmas shopping done while it’s on sale! My Christmas is mostly a DIY thing this year, so I’m incredibly excited to get going on those!

See you soon, and happy bargain hunting!

2017 Fall Favorites: Makeup

Hi guys!

So, like promised, here is my list of fall beauty favorites. I have bought a lot of makeup recently, because I was getting stuck just using the same stuff over and over again, and I had decided that enough was enough. So I took my credit card, made my way to Ulta and bought some new stuff that I had been peeping at for a while.

The first one was the Urban Decay Naked Heat palette, and OH MY GOD is it beautiful! I have been obsessed with all of the Naked palettes for quite some time now, and they are my go to for eye shadows. I had been wanting this since it came out, but I wanted to wait until I did a proper makeup clear out before I bought anything new. I’ve had this for about a month now, and it has changed my life. The colors are beautiful for fall-and year round, lets be honest- and they layer beautifully. AND THE BRUSH! The brush that comes with the palette is one of Urban Decays best brushes yet IMO. I’m just obsessed with this and its beautifulness (Katie word, get used to it!)

The next thing that I’ve been rocking this fall are liquid lipsticks. Now, I’ve never been much of a lipstick person, but I love the way it looks on everyone else, so I decided to give it a try. I had heard a lot of rave reviews on the matte finish ones, and felt like that would be perfect for me. I got two new ones, one a nude shade one from Tarte and a pink shade one from Too Faced and they have completely changed my outlook on lippy’s.

The one from Tarte is a tarteist lip paint in the shade Bestie, which is a beautiful nude. This one goes on beautifully and is extremely comfortable. I use this one almost daily, and HAVE to go find a few more shades that go with my skin!

The one from Too Faced is one of their melted matte lipstick in the shade Bend & Snap! This shade is a bit on the edgier side as it is a very deep pink, but it is so comfortable and lasts so well! While I wear the Tarte one almost daily, I tend to grab this one for the days where my outfit is a little more subdued, just to give myself some extra color.

Last but certainly by no means least, I finally, FINALLY, learned how to do a flick on my own eyes. This was one of those things that I could do perfectly on other people, but never came out right on myself. I think the eyeliner was key. Before, I had been using liquid eyeliners from Revlon and L’Oreal, the high street brands. But I recently discovered the Stila stay all day liquid liner pen and decided to give it a go. OH MY GOD IT HAS CHANGED MY EYELINER LIFE! It is so easy to apply, the tip is perfect size for flicks and my eyeliner just comes out damn near perfect every time!

I would definitely recommend all of these products, I mean come on, I wouldn’t tell you to buy shit beauty bits. So the next time you are looking to spice up your makeup routine, I say go for one of these; they are super cute and really hassle free, which is my favorite kind of makeup!

Until next time! XOXO K

2017 Fall Favorites: Sweaters

Hi guys!

We have now entered- and are actually more than half way through- my favorite month ever! The apple crisp and the pumpkins, the leaves and brisk air; if I could live in a perpetual October, I so would! Along with everything I listed above, one of my absolute favorite parts of October, and autumn in general really, are the sweaters! I frickin LOVE sweater weather!

This year, I was able to buy a couple new sweaters, and I absolutely love them!! They are all comfy and cozy and just perfect!

The first sweater I bought, I actually loved it so much I bought it in three different colors. I found it at Kohl’s and it was extremely affordable! I got it in a cream, a dark green and a mustard color and I switch between these three sweaters all week!

The second one I bought was one that I had had my eye on for a while. It is from H&M and it includes a cheeky little slogan, which is my favorite thing ever! It’s a cream sweater, plain on the front, but on the back it says “get off my back” in red terry cloth. I. AM. OBSESSED! I unfortunately can’t wear this to work, but it’s a staple piece on the weekends. I’m a bit late to the party on this one, and because of that, it is now sold out, but you can find them on EBay, so take a peak there!

So those are some of my favorite buys of the season, and I hope I’m able to give some of you some style inspiration, because if you’re anything like me, then you love to take a peak into other’s closests.

Look out for my next post, which will include my favorite beauty bits of the season!

College Squad=Best Squad

Hi Guys!

It’s been a while, but I had a very relaxing-and HUGELY needed- week at the beach that culminated in a massively fun weekend with my girls from college. We laughed and drank way too much, but hey, we haven’t seen each other in a year, so it was acceptable. On Saturday Portland Maine hosted a 90’s themed bar crawl, and having gone to school up there, all of our favorite going out spots were partaking in the festivities. So we donned our best 90’s garb-yes the overalls were there and we rocked them-and frolicked around Old Port listening to Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys, and it was a frickin’ blast!

Somewhere between the 4th or 5th $4 PBR, I realized just how much I have missed these girls in the past year. We spent 4 years together growing into the women we are today, and to not have seen them for a year was surreal. The best part of it all, was the fact that although it had been a year, it was as if no time had passed. I guess that goes to show just how strong the bond between your college Squad is. I know they will always be there for me, and I know that they feel the same way about me.

We may not see each other for another year, but I am looking forward to the reunion that is bound to happen soon. Until then, enjoy these pictures of us, and keep in mind, this was about 4 hours of day drinking in-yes we are all of age at 23.

Vanilla & Lemon Cake.

Hi guys,

So my cousin is in town for the next month, and it was his father’s birthday yesterday (June 26th), so for the benefit of everyone, my mom decided to host a little birthday dinner. Me being the aspiring baker that I am, decided that it would be a perfect opportunity to whip out the ole’ piping bag and give it a go. I let my uncle choose what kind of cake he wanted, which was really my cousins decision, and he decided he wanted a vanilla cake with lemon frosting. Now, I’ve never made a cake, or frosting for that matter, from scratch before but I didn’t back down and all in all, I think it came out tasting pretty damn good!

First thing I did was look up a basic vanilla cake recipe. Earlier this year, I found a really good one on Pinterest for cupcakes, and I figured that I would be able to use the same one. This was the recipe that I used, and for the most part, I followed it to a T, but I did change a few things to kind of make it my own. For this part, the amounts and ingredients I used are as follows:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 and 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 and 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk

Once everything was all mixed according to the recipe, I separated the mixture into two round cake tins and popped them in the oven.

The recipe calls for the cakes to be cooked in a 350 F oven for 25 minutes. When I checked mine at 25 minutes-I couldn’t find a single toothpick so I used a butterknife-it came out gooey. So I popped them back in and check about 10ish minutes later and voila! they were done! They cooled in their tins for about 10 minutes before I took them out and let them cool on the counter for about an hour.

While the cakes were cooling, I got to work on the frosting. Again, I found a recipe on Pinterest, and it came out AHMAZZZINGGGGG!!!! I’m a huge lemon freak, and this one was perfect. I’m personally not a fan of buttercream, I don’t know why I’ve just never liked it. So I wanted to find a good lemon frosting that was sweet and tart all in one. Again, I had to tweak this recipe; I doubled it to make sure I had enough because I wanted to frost between the layers, and I cut down on some of the sugar and added more lemon to make it extra lemoney! The ingredients and amounts I used were as follows:

  • 7 1/2 cups confectioner’s sugar
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 7 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoon milk

*again, these are doubled*

Once everything was all mixed together, I got to frosting!

I first frosted in between the layers, giving it a generous amount so that the lemon flavor was tasted throughout the cake. Then I moved on to covering the whole thing. This part would’ve been a whole hell of a lot easier had I had a cake stand, but c’est la vie. IMG_0311.JPG

I then piped a little fancy dancy design on one side, and added a little bit of lemon zest on top to give it a really professional touch, and it was good to go!

I frosted it before we ate dinner, and popped it in the fridge which gave the frosting a bit of time to harden up a smidge. It was moist and delicious and will definitely be added to my repertoire of cakes. You could pair the cake itself with any frosting, add berries to this cake, eat the lemon frosting on it’s own, whatever you would like to do to make it your own!

I hope you enjoy, and let me know in the comments if anyone liked my recipes or how you changed them to make them your own!

Happy Baking!!

My PLL Finale Theory

Hey guys!

Like most 16 year old girls in 2010, I was extremely excited when ABC Family- I will forever call it this, wtf is Freeform?- announced that they would be coming out with a show that was based on the Sara Shepard series Pretty Little Liars. I had read the first few of these books recently, and I was obsessed with the ongoings of the Liars in Rosewood and couldn’t wait to see how they would show this on the TV Screen.

When the first episode aired that June, I was in heaven. I loved how they chose to show the girls, I loved the story lines and how they were similar and different from the books. I just loved the show. Each time a new A was revealed, I cried with the Liars. Each time a character died, I was heartbroken. The drama was riveting, and I never missed an episode.

Fast forward seven years and my love for it has diminished quite a bit, but I still watch it because, like most people, I. NEED. ANSWERS!!!!! Who really killed Ian in season one? Did Charlotte really do everything she said she did? Why is Sydney such a bitch? WHO IS AD?! I grew up with this show, and 5 days out from it’s series finale, I’m feeling quite sentimental.

But as bittersweet as the show ending is, I wanted to share with you who I really think AD is, and how I think everything came about. Before I start, I would love to hear what your theories are, of they are similar to mine, if you think I’m cray-I probably am, but I’m sticking to this for the next 5 days- so comment down below!

Right, let’s get to it:

First, we know that Ali’s mom has a twin, Mary Drake, who is actually Charlotte’s mother. We know that she was in the Radley Sanitarium-which Hanna’s mom turned into a hotel…? I would NEVER stay there-when Charlotte was born, so Jessica, her twin and Ali’s mom, took the child and raised them. Charlotte, born a boy named Charles, ends up in Radley herself, but that isn’t relevant to the story. Jessica has an affair with Peter, Spencer’s father, and they have Jason, Ali’s older brother.

Jason and Ali share a mom (Jessica), Jason, Spencer, and Spencer’s sister Melissa share a dad (Peter). Charlotte, is Jason and Ali’s cousin/adopted sister, although they don’t know this because they remember her as Charles, until she went into Radley.

We found out this season that Spencer, daughter to Peter and Veronica Hastings, isn’t really Veronica’s daughter. Mary snuck out to meet Peter, pretending to be Jessica, and subsequently slept with him. 9 months later, she’s back in Radley giving birth to Spencer.

Spencer and Melissa only share a dad (Peter) and Charlotte and Spencer share a mom (Mary Drake).

Because Peter decides to do the right thing, with Veronica’s prompting no doubt, they take Spencer and raise her as their own.

24 years and Ali’s fake death later, Charlotte, who tortured them for 4 years, is dead and everyone is back in Rosewood, the drama quickly ensuing.

Now before I explain my reasoning, I want to state that I believe that Melissa Hastings is AD or Uber A. My theory revolves around Melissa and Spencer’s relationship. They have always had a rocky relationship, and I attribute this to Melissa having found out long ago that Spencer was only her half sister. She never wanted Spencer to get harmed, but she also didn’t care enough to stop her from torturing Spencer along with the other liars.

Now, going back to the beginning of the show, Melissa hated Ali because of her involvement with Ian. I think that Melissa, having found out the truth about Charlotte, blackmailed her to torture the liars so she wouldn’t get found out.

Once Charlotte was murdered, it seemed like the only thing AD cared about was finding out who did it. Well, if Charlotte was working for AD Melissa in torturing the liars, she really would want to know who killed her coverup-which we now know was Mona- Charlotte.

If you’re still following me, I think Melissa is AD. She blackmailed Charlotte into being A so that she could torture the liars while still making them believe it wasn’t her. Charlotte, who is kind of nuts anyway, went along with it because she actually loved the game. Now, with Charlotte dead, she wants to find out who killed her accomplice. Melissa, who still hates Ali, wants her to suffer and she doesn’t really like Spencer, so she’s willing to do whatever it takes to get her way.

PHEW! And I’m still not done! Mary Drake is willing to sacrifice everything to help Spencer and the rest of the liars out. She’s her mother after all. But what about that weird scene a few weeks ago with Spencer, Wren-hello gorgeous, where the hell have you been?-and Ezra in the airport? Well, for that, I have one word. Twins.

That’s right, I think that while in Radley, Mary Drake had two babies instead of one, i.e., Spencer is a twin. This fits because why would Spencer-at-the-airport not want the others to know that she was there? Because it wasn’t really Spencer. Maybe twin B-let’s call her Zoe- was adopted by different parents after she was born, someone that Mary trusted and when she got out, she found her. This would mean that Zoe was also Charlotte’s half sister.

Zoe, who found out she had a twin and wanted to get to know her, ran into Wren. Wren, confusing her for Spencer, talked about things that only Spencer would know, thus starting their friendship. When Charlotte died and the liars started getting texts and threats from AD, ehmm, Melissa, Wren and Zoe decided to try to figure out exactly what happened, and with the help of Mary find out it’s Melissa and want revenge for Charlotte’s murder.

THERE!!! So Melissa is AD, Spencer has a twin, and everyone lived happily ever after. If that’s not how the show pans out, I may be slightly disappointed.

ENJOY THE FINALE! And look for a reaction post in the next week or so!
